Zirconium carbide ceramics. The chemical formula is ZrC, gray, face-centered cubic lattice. The melting point is 3540 ℃, the theoretical density is 6.66g/cm3, the thermal expansion coefficient is 6.7×10-6C-1, the microhardness is 2600kg/mm2, the resistivity is 57~75 ·cm, the temperature of intense oxidation is 1100~1400 ℃. Insoluble in hydrochloric acid, but soluble in nitric acid. Powder is generally made by reducing
ZrO2 with carbon, and then after molding, sintering and ceramics. It can be used as electrode, refractory crucible and cathode electron emission material.
Chemical properties
Dark gray cubic crystal with metallic luster, brittle. Melting point is 3540 ℃. The boiling point of 5100 ℃. The apparent density is 6.70g/cm3. Mohs hardness 8 ~ 9. Insoluble in cold water and hydrochloric acid. Soluble in hydrofluoric acid containing nitric acid or hydrogen peroxide and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Zirconium tetrachloride is formed by reaction with chlorine gas at high temperature. At 700℃, zirconia is generated by combustion in air and does not react with water.
